Let’s be honest. Don’t we all just want to make cool-looking stuff? We want other things as well. We want to express our deepest truths, we want to make the world a better place, we want to teach and heal ourselves and others. There are many serious and important thing that we want for and from our art. There are also many superficial and practical things we want. We want to make money, we want to have influence, we want to be famous, we want to decorate that space above the couch. Of course, all artists don’t necessarily want all of those things or only those things. Each artist gets to decide for themselves what they really want for and from the work. One thing I’m pretty sure about is that we all want to make cool-looking stuff, whatever that means to us. Am I wrong? #arteveryday #feelgood #befree #writingaboutart #dancingaboutarchetecture #icanhelpyou #beyou #makemeaning #makeitmeaningful #meaningmatters #makeart #artistlife #artonpaper #artcurator #abstractpainting #contemporaryart #creativehappylife #creativelifehappylife #creativitycoach #watercolor #figurativeabstraction #artlife #markmaking #makeyourmark #worksonpaper #art-consultant #studiopractice #contemporarydrawing #leepuffer #abstractpainter

I’m not an “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” type of person. I’m a “tweak it all the time” person. I’m always trying to find a way to make teaching more relevant, more interesting, more fun. I always want to learn something new and see if I can show my students as well. As an artist, I’m always trying a new media or technique. When what I want to say changes, so does the way I want to say it. This way of being often creates more work for myself. And sometimes the old way IS better! In my curiosity and restlessness, I’ve just forgotten why I did it the old way. So, I either live and learn, or live and re-learn. Does this happen to you? #arteveryday #liveandlearn #befree #writingaboutart #dancingaboutarchetecture #icanhelpyou #beyou #makemeaning #makeitmeaningful #meaningmatters #makeart #artistlife #artonpaper #artcurator #abstractpainting #contemporaryart #creativehappylife #creativelifehappylife #creativitycoach #watercolor #figurativeabstraction #artlife #markmaking #makeyourmark #worksonpaper #art-consultant #studiopractice #contemporarydrawing #leepuffer #abstractpainter

About Lee Puffer

Born in Long Beach, CA, Lee Puffer grew up in Coastal Massachusetts and Maine, Mexico, Venezuela, and the shores of Lake Erie in Western New York. Puffer began her career after graduating with Honors from the Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA from the Studio for Interrelated Media in 1992, working with Tony Oursler among others.
In 2004 Puffer enrolled in the Graduate program at San Diego State University, earning an MFA in 2007 with an emphasis of Ceramics. Her nomadic background manifests itself in sculpture made with a distinct sense of place. Her background as a multimedia artist lends her sculpture and sculptural installations immediacy and a contemporary sensibility.
Puffer creates life-sized figurative and kinetic sculpture and installation which offer cultural critique through personal and controversial imagery often appropriating and re-contextualizing images and ideas from popular culture.
She has exhibited at The Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, The American Museum of Ceramic Art, and The Women’s Museum of California among others. She is currently on faculty at Palomar College in San Marcos, California.
